JUST IN: Lawyers representing President Donald Trump are reportedly considering making a deal with White House Special Counsel Robert Mueller in exchange for him setting a hard end date for his probe.

The Hill reported that though Trump’s attorneys are split on the terms of the deal, they would like Mueller to agree to parameters on the scope of such an interview. One idea that has been tossed around is that Mueller would agree to end the investigation within 60 days of interviewing Trump. Talks between Mueller and Trump’s lawyers have reportedly just started.

Though Trump himself has said that he is “looking forward” to speaking with the special counsel’s team, his lawyers have repeatedly said that he would only agree under certain conditions. Legal experts have expressed skepticism that Mueller would agree to this idea.

“You can’t put a timeline on these things,” said former federal prosecutor Peter Zeidenberg. “Someone could walk in the door on the day before their proposed deadline and say, ‘I’ve got some information that’s going to blow your minds.’ … [And] Mueller’s going to say, ‘Oh, too bad, the deadline’s tomorrow?’”

Reports this past week claimed that Trump has asked as least two former witnesses interviewed by Mueller about their experiences and what they discussed. Mueller’s probe has reportedly expanded to included possible obstruction of justice, as well as the business ties of Trump and members of his family.

Trump’s lawyers thinks that if the president were to be interviewed by Mueller, the questions would focus on the firings of former FBI Director James Comey and former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Comey has claimed that Trump fired him after he was asked by the president to back off a Justice Department investigation into Flynn.

Trump has slammed Mueller’s investigation as a “witch hunt” that has the world “laughing” at the U.S. What do you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
